The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has undergone a successful hernia operation. The routine surgery was carried out at the Hadasa Ein Karem hospital in Jerusalem, known for its high level of care and highly-skilled surgeons. The Prime Minister originally scheduled the surgery after being checked out for a significant level of discomfort he was feeling around his stomach. The doctors revealed, after a scan, that Prime Minister Netanyahu was suffering from a hernia.
Doctors believe that he should face a speedy recovery and will be discharged and fit to return to work very soon. Some minor governmental plans have been rescheduled to accommodate the surgery, including a routine meeting of ministers. As the surgery is so commonly performed and not overly intrusive, doctors believe his recovery will be very fast.
Netanyahu’s Legacy
Benjamin Netanyahu has been a prominent figure in Israeli and world politics for over three decades. Born in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, Netanyahu was raised among fiercely loyal Israeli parents and siblings who helped shape and form Netanyahu’s eventual rise to global prominence and a key figurehead on the face of global politics. After a period with the army, Netanyahu found his passion and moved into politics, where to this day he continues to hold a seat at the center stage of world diplomacy efforts. Many close to the Prime Minister say that he is generally in good health and that the hernia incident, was unexpected, is common among men of his age.
‘Routine’ Surgery
A hernia occurs when stress to the abdominal wall creates a gap in the muscle tissue – however, as unsightly and uncomfortable as it may be, it is a relatively routine procedure. Many hospitals and clinics perform hernia operations as outpatient procedures, but it may be necessary to keep a patient in as they recover if they are in a relevant risk group (age, past medical history etc). Typical symptoms can include pain, weakness and drowsiness from the pain medication – this may be why Prime Minister Netanyahu has chosen to take a small amount of time to recover. Doctors at the Hadasa Ein Karem hospital perform hundreds of hernia operations per year and consider it as routine as possible.
Looking to the Future
Having won a consecutive general election earlier in the year, Netanyahu is looking to the future to try and make a difference on all fronts. Many believe his focus on bringing peace to the region of Israel will play a dominant role in his duties as Prime Minister for this term. With peace talks ongoing, Netanyahu believes that small but significant steps are being taken to ensure a more peaceful environment for future generations. Many Israeli’s are supportive of Netanyahu and his policies, with many relating to his unflinching and confident approach to making change for the better. After a brief period of rest and healing, Netanyahu will be looking to get back to his duties as Prime Minister later on Sunday. Doctors feel that even for a man of his age this surgery is routine and non-intrusive enough to warrant a discharge within 24 hours.
