And that Barbie inspires tolerance and love
Some wars must be fought without any violence, without any confusion, and without any tragedy, and are won that way. At the frontline of the war against intolerance, you will find the Olympic athlete Ibjtihaj Muhammad, and she has brought the world to an amazing victory.
Ibtihaj is a member of the United States fencing team and is the first female Muslim-American athlete to earn an Olympic medal. She earned that title during the 2016 Summer Olympics, coinciding with the U.S. Presidential campaign when a lot of public discussion revolved around Muslims in America. She wore her hijab proudly while she competed in the Olympics and is known as the first Muslim American woman to do so.
Ibtihaj believes in spreading acceptance, inclusion, and inspiration for creating this one of a kind Barbie doll. Ibtihaj’s doll will be the first to wear a hijab, standing on strong legs for realistic body proportions.
This is such an amazing victory because children all over the world should be able to see themselves in the toys that they play with and should be proud of their culture. The Olympic fencer brought attention to the two the most powerful weapons there are: knowledge and love!
