Paltrow says her husband was the reason she got back into acting
Veteran actress Gwyneth Paltrow is appearing in the new Netflix series The Politician–but before she took the role, she was semi-retired from acting and says her husband, Brad Falchuk, had to “convince” her to take it.
In the new series, Paltrow plays the mother of a high school student who is determined to become President someday. He tries to break into politics by becoming student body president at his high school in Santa Barbara, California.
“He had to convince me a little bit,” Paltrow, 47, said of her husband on the Today show. “I’ve got a pretty big day job over at goop.com, so I sorta put acting on the back burner. But, he was writing and he was like, ‘I think I’m writing a part for you.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t think I can do a part.’ And lo and behold, here I am.”
Goop.com is Paltrow’s online shop that sells a variety of natural health and beauty products, as well as supplements. Paltrow considers Goop her main priority these days.
Still, Savannah Guthrie, the co-host of the Today show, said Paltrow’s role in The Politician seems “made for” her.
“By the way, it does seem like it was written for you,” Guthrie said. “The part is kind of just perfect for you.”
