How Shopping Has Changed
Technology has changed the way we shop. Before, we spent time going to the store, trying on outfits or searching for just the right linens and making a purchase. These days, with a quick Internet search and a click of a button, we can shop from the comfort of our own home. Now, we can be sitting in our jammies and buy something new any time. However, the retail industry has been the slowest one to be taken over by the Internet because of the difficulty of finding just the right size without trying an item on due to a lack of a universal sizing standard.
It is more economical for a retailer to have strong online presence rather than brick and mortar stores. However, the one issue that retailers face is how people can have a successful shopping experience without trying on the clothing. Therefore, billions of dollars have been spent to develop different solutions, such as algorithms, avatars, and augmented reality to figure out the approximate size you would need based on the measurements you submit.
So, if you are a little hesitant to try shopping online rather than going to the store, there are several apps that can help make your shopping experience a whole lot better. StitchFix is a personal shopping service that does not require you to have an online subscription. After filling out a style profile, they send you five pieces of clothing to try. Then, you can choose to buy what you like and send back what you don’t. TrunkClub, which is owned by Nordstrom, allows you to create your style profile by picking what types of outfits you like, chatting with a stylist, then reviewing what is in your “trunk“. After receiving the items you choose, you have five days to decide what to keep and what to return. DAAMN! is a new app. It is a fashion service that provides you with on-demand style opinions from verified stylists. You simply take a picture of your outfit choice or choices and submit them and a stylist will help you choose the best outfit for the occasion. Whether you love to shop or prefer to do so from the privacy of your home, there are many choices available to us.
