The MTV Video Music Awards lived up to its reputation – this year is no exempt from surprisingly controversial acts, risqué performances, cheeky ad-libs, side comments and rowdy crowds.

Extravagance

MTV showed it was not a penny-pincher venue-wise. Not a single detail was missed in building up Barclays Center’s ambiance for the awards night. Aside from the 60-foot blowup of the awards’ iconic image, the Moon Man, the whole place screamed of Brooklyn, from the decors to the recreated landmarks including the red-carpet walkway which is the Brooklyn Bridge replica.

In the same way, the stars who witnessed the VMAs and walked down the carpet flashed extravagance in the fashion statements they strutted; donning on gowns, suits and even “barely there” clothes with poise and confidence no matter if they’re labeled best dressed or not by the press the next day.

Surprise! Surprise!

After days of speculation whether they were reuniting or not, N Sync confirmed the rumors that VMAs night and it was a whooping 2-minute YES! Much to the delight of the crowd, including artists Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez, the boy band tripped down memory lane by singing their popular song “Bye Bye Bye” with then N Sync member but now solo artist Justin Timberlake.

But it was not only N Sync who reunited that night, the all-girls singing group Danity Kane announced they’re getting back together with a simple “We’re baaaaaack!” in a red-carpet interview. However, they have made it clear that they have reunited sans mentor P. Diddy.

Criticisms…Criticisms…and More Criticisms

Lady Gaga and first-time VMAs performer Miley Cyrus were the night’s shockers when both donned on underwear for their respective performances. Lady Gaga underwent multiple outfit changes during her stint which was the awards night kick-off and her performance’s end saw her wear a clam shell-fashioned bra and flowery thongs that left her bum naked for all to see.

Miley’s outfit was no different. She had on a one-piece swimsuit at the start of her “We Can’t Stop” performance with an image of a teddy bear its tongue sticking out gracing the front. However, when she appeared in her next stint which is with Robin Thicke, she stripped down to her nude PVC undies, did provocative stunts in front of the “Blurred Lines” singer and even molested a rubber hand. Her rowdy act that night had earned her the gasps and uproar of the world.

Country/Pop singer Taylor Swift was not even exempted from the press’ ever watchful eyes that night. She was videoed mouthing words that seemed to read as, “Shut the F up!” when One Direction went up stage to present Selena Gomez’s Best Pop Video award. The British fab five also got boos from the VMA crowd when they got the moon man for the Best Song of Summer. Nevertheless, Lady Gaga turned up as their “Lady in Shining Armor” coming up in defense for the boys.

Winners and Winners!

Justin Timberlake was clearly the biggest winner of this year’s Video Music Awards bringing home Vanguard Award and Video of the Year. Other winners of the night were Bruno Mars, besties Taylor Sift and Selena Gomez, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Austin Mahone, Thirty Seconds to Mars and One Direction.
