Legal groups are seeking to disqualify Greene from seeking reelection.
Today, a federal judge gave the official go-ahead to the group of activists that are pursuing challenges against Georgia republican representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. In addition to the many factors Greene has become a controversial figure for, the most pressing concern is whether or not she directly aided in the insurrection riot on January 6, 2021. If it is ruled that she did, the activists seek to disqualify Greene from seeking reelection on the grounds of a Civil War-era provision that prevents those who aid in insurrections against the country to run for office.

“This case involves a whirlpool of colliding constitutional interests of public import,” District Judge Amy Totenberg of the Northern District of Georgia wrote in the ruling. “Upon a thorough analysis of each of the claims asserted in this case, the Court concludes that [Greene] has not carried her burden of persuasion with respect to this important and essential prerequisite to [Greene’s] demonstration of an entitlement to injunctive relief.”

“The Constitution disqualifies from public office any elected officials who aided the insurrection, and we look forward to asking Representative Greene about her involvement under oath,” said Ron Fein, legal director of advocacy group Free Speech for People.
