After originally being teased back in 2019, Marvel has remained fairly quiet about the production of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor: Love and Thunder, only offering slight hints about its contents. Today, though, the silence was finally broken, with the very first trailer for the film now available.

Thor: Love and Thunder will catch up with the titular god of thunder as he journeys around space with the Guardians of the Galaxy as he discovers what it really means to be an Asgardian and a god. The film will also bring is up to speed with several characters and locations, such as Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and the residents of New Asgard.

Back in July, the film’s director, Taika Waititi, spoke to Empire about what fans should expect from Love and Thunder. “I’ve done some crazy s— in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done,” he said. “If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.”

“It’s very different from Ragnarok,” Waititi continued. “It’s crazier. I’ll tell you what’s different. There’ll be far more emotion in this film. And a lot more love. And a lot more thunder. And a lot more Thor, if you’ve seen the photos.”

Thor: Love and Thunder is slated to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
