Baby Archie graces the world with his first public appearance
The Royal Baby made his first public appearance in South Africa this week. Prince Harry and Princess Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, brought their four-month-old son, Archie, with them as they met with Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa.
Archbishop Tutu was a hero of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. He won a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in 1984. The royals posted a photo to their official Instagram account, writing, “Arch meets Archie!” They later posted another photo thanking Archbishop Tutu and his wife for their hospitality. “Thank you Archbishop Tutu for your incredibly warm hospitality, Archie loved meeting you!”
Archie, who is seventh in line for the British throne, was born May 2nd amid much fanfare around the world. His parents have kept a low profile since then, mostly keeping Archie at home at their British estate. The Duke and Duchess’s tour of Africa is his first trip outside of Britain.
Duchess Meghan joked that she slept with “one eye open” during the flight from London to South Africa, so she could keep an eye on Archie. The royal family is now headed to Botswana.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are heavily involved in humanitarian work across Africa, and they personally support the charity founded by Archbishop Tutu and his wife, Leah.
