Microsoft Layoffs Are Coming Again; Here’s What We Know
Microsoft is letting go of thousands of employees, mostly from its sales division. This news comes just a few months after the company had already cut about 6,000 jobs in May. The next round of layoffs is expected to hit in early July and will affect teams across the globe.
So why is this happening again? Simple. Microsoft is going all in on artificial intelligence. The company is investing nearly 80 billion dollars this year to build more data centers and power its AI services like Azure and Microsoft Copilot. To make room for that shift, traditional roles like sales and marketing are getting trimmed.
Right now, Microsoft has about 228,000 employees around the world. Around 45,000 of those are in sales and marketing. With the company putting its focus on AI and cloud tech, many of these roles are now seen as outdated or overlapping. This isn’t just a random round of cuts. It’s part of a long-term plan to restructure Microsoft around the future of tech.
And it’s not just Microsoft. Other tech giants like Amazon and Meta are doing the same thing. So even if you don’t work at Microsoft, this news matters. The entire tech industry is shifting, and if you’re in sales, marketing, or even customer support, now’s the time to start paying attention to AI trends.
If you work in tech, learning AI tools and upskilling could help protect your career. There are new roles popping up in areas like AI integration, support, training, and automation oversight. And if you’re just a regular user of Microsoft products, expect more AI features and less human interaction in things like customer service and troubleshooting.
Microsoft’s direction is crystal clear. These layoffs are part of a bigger push to lead the AI game globally. Whether you work in the tech world or not, the way companies operate is changing fast. Staying informed is the first step in keeping up.
