Parton changed her mind after declining the initial nomination.
Today, country music superstar Dolly Parton was officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Lionel Richie and Carly Simon.
Back in March, Parton was nominated to be inducted into Hall of Fame. However, Parton declined the nomination as she felt that she, in her own words, had not earned the right to be inducted, and didn’t want the induction votes to be split because of her.

Last week, though, Parton changed her mind and accepted the nomination, saying that she had misunderstood the nomination. “It was always my belief that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was for people in rock music,” she said. “I have found out lately it’s not necessarily that. But if they can’t go there to be recognized, where can they go? And so I felt like I was taking away from someone that maybe deserved it certainly more than me since I never considered myself a rock artist. But obviously, there’s more to it than that.”

The Hall of Fame Foundation had also noted at the time that Parton’s name was already on the ballot and that they couldn’t take her off of it even if they wanted to (which they didn’t). “We are in awe of Dolly’s brilliant talent and pioneering spirit and are proud to have nominated her for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” they said.
