Florence Pugh Had to Explain the MCU to Her Family While Watching ‘Black Widow’

Florence Pugh made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the premier of Black Widow last week. For her, it was an incredibly cool experience, being part of such a sprawling series of blockbuster films. But when she brought her family to the film’s premier, despite the fact that none of them had seen any previous MCU film, she had to provide some commentary on the fly to keep everyone, especially her mother, up with the story.

“She wasn’t asking, but I kept on leaning over and being like, ‘so she’s a real, real baddie and he’s really nasty, and he’s done all these bad things to these women,” Pugh said on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “And then something else would happen and I’d be like, ‘so the reason why that’s funny is because four movies ago…'”

She realized at one point that she had become “that person that’s now talking during the entire screening, and it’s my movie and I’m explaining the plot to my mom.” She also had to keep them all seated when the credits rolled for the film’s post-credits scene.

Black Widow is now playing in theaters, and is also available for streaming on Disney+ for premier access subscribers.
