The pope attempts to shift Vatican support to LGBTQ+ community
Pope Francis is calling for a shift in the Vatican’s stance on same-sex marriage that was revealed in a new documentary “Francesco.” In the new documentary, Pope Francis advocates for the passage of same-sex civil union laws that is against the pope’s predecessors and the Vatican’s doctrinal office.
In the film, Pope Francis speaks of pastoral care for LGBTQ+ members of the church saying, “Homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family. They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it.” The Pope believes that this is an issue that needs more attention so LGBTQ+ couples are legally covered under the law.
“Francesco” will explore how Pope Francis faces social issues and leading the pastoral ministry featuring interviews with other Vatican figures that work closely with the pope. Pope Francis is known for being the advocate of the poor, migrants, refugees, and now the LGBTQ+ community.
Bishops in other countries that have not opposed same-sex civil unions while distinguishing them from civil marriage. Equality for the LGBTQ+ community is only one of the global issues addressed by Pope Francis in the new documentary. The “Francesco” documentary premiered October 21 during the Rome Film Festival and is set to debut in North America on Sunday.
