El Paso is strong against Trump during presidential visit
President Trump visited Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas this week in the wake of deadly mass shootings that killed a combined 29 people. He planned to meet with victims, first responders, police officers, and city officials. However, he was also met with protests from angry residents who implored him to “do something” about gun violence.
“”He has used our community as a prop in the past, misrepresented who we are, described us as dangerous city, a place to be feared, described people in my community, Hispanics, immigrants as people to be hated,” Veronica Escobar, a Democratic Congresswoman from the El Paso area, told Al Jazeera.
But Trump called the protests “fake news,” and said his visits to Dayton and El Paso went well.
“Just left Dayton, Ohio, where I met with the Victims & families, Law Enforcement, Medical Staff & First Responders. It was a warm & wonderful visit. Tremendous enthusiasm & even Love. Then I saw failed Presidential Candidate (0%) Sherrod Brown & Mayor Whaley totally misrepresenting what took place inside of the hospital. Their news conference after I left for El Paso was a fraud. It bore no resemblance to what took place with those incredible people that I was so lucky to meet and spend time with. They were all amazing!” Trump tweeted.
After his second visit, to El Paso, Trump tweeted, “Leaving El Paso for the White House. What GREAT people I met there and in Dayton, Ohio. The Fake News worked overtime trying to disparage me and the two trips, but it just didn’t work. The love, respect & enthusiasm were there for all to see. They have been through so much. Sad!”
