A Sports Filled Weekend Ahead
This is not the blog’s favorite time of year. There’s plenty going on but you must be a devotee of more eclectic sports – tennis and cycling – and then be able to arise early to see these events that take place in Europe. Those are anathema to the blog (mostly the early rising).
Set your alarms. The Weekend TV Six-Pack caters here to those getting too little sleep. Your heiner may never see the recliner with this schedule.
Wimbledon tennis action begins on Saturday at 8 a.m. ET on ESPN and runs through 5 p.m. That should wrap up the second round of the tournament.
The Tour de France, which seems to involve more cars and trucks than bicycles, can be viewed on Saturday and Sunday at 7 a.m. on NBC Sports. Makes the blog miss his old five-speed Schwinn.
NASCAR’s Quaker State 400, a staple for the guys who go round and round, is set for Saturday night at Sparta, Kentucky. Weather has been an issue over the preceding days, so be mindful of the possibility of delays (and crashes). You can see this at 7:30 p.m. on NBC Sports. There’s a garage full of races on Sunday – Formula One’s Austrian Grand Prix at 7:30 a.m. on CNBC, NHRA at 3 p.m. on FS1 and IndyCar from Newton, Iowa on NBC Sports at 5:30 p.m.
The NBA Summer League has heavy schedules on Saturday and Sunday, games too numerous (and players too anonymous) to document. NBA TV, ESPN and ESPN2 carry many of them, so give the clicker a workout if you want to see the stars of tomorrow (and some of the disappointments).
As a prelude to the All-Star game festivities in Miami next week, the All-Star Futures Game is Sunday at 4 p.m. on MLB if you want to see the stars of tomorrow (and some of the disappointments).
Enjoy. And remember that NFL training camps are opening in a couple of weeks. Hang on. Better days are ahead.
