A transformative partnership to boost biodiversity, resilience, and gender equality in the face of climate change.
The Philippines, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), is proud to announce the successful securing of a $5.3 billion climate finance commitment from Canada. This significant funding, announced by Global Affairs Canada Climate Finance executive director Andrew Hurst during the ongoing 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Dubai, is set to bolster the nation’s efforts in addressing critical environmental challenges.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) released a statement outlining the key areas where the funding will be directed. The commitment, extending until 2026, will support initiatives focused on promoting biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience, all with a keen consideration for gender equality.
Hurst emphasized the comprehensive nature of the collaboration, stating that the project encompasses activities ranging from research and knowledge sharing to actively encouraging private sector involvement. The goal is to attract both international and local investors, fostering opportunities for sustainable solutions in the Philippines.

“We believe that some of the efforts undertaken in this project can generate creative solutions with a lasting impact beyond its conclusion. The results generated will continue to seek opportunities for further development and collaboration in the future,” remarked Hurst, expressing optimism about the project’s potential long-term outcomes.
The initiative aims to address persistent issues through a unified intervention approach, emphasizing integration and collaboration across sectors. By fostering creative solutions and engaging various stakeholders, the project aspires to contribute significantly to the global fight against climate change.
As the Philippines and its partners embark on this transformative journey, they remain committed to not only mitigating environmental challenges but also creating a sustainable legacy that will endure beyond the life of the project. This collaboration exemplifies the power of international cooperation in advancing climate action and fostering a resilient and sustainable future.
