While there were lots of cool new cellphones and big, jaw-dropping flat screen TVs, there were a few particular items that stood out. While there were some very cutting-edge announcements, like the fancy new USB 3.1 cables that promise to cut down on number of cables needed for PCs.
A Headset for the Future
One look at Avegant’s Glyph and the first thing that comes to mind is virtual reality. Although, it does look like the Oculus Rift, it isn’t designed for that, but it does have some novel ideas to bring to the table. Instead, the Avegant Glyph is more like a wearable 3D TV, giving you a premium, portable theater experience wherever and whenever you want.
What’s great about this futuristic headset is that they are form-fitting and very similar to a pair of Beats headphones and in fact double as a pair of headphones for music playback. While that would be an extravagant pair of headphones on their own, it does provide about 2 days of playback on a charge and about 4 hours for video playback.
The Sound of Glass
The Sony Symphonic Light Speaker is a definite show-stopper at the CES 2015. At first glance, it only appears like a flashy speaker, but it is actually a very astonishing piece of technology. This is no ordinary speaker, it doesn’t contain the typical components you would expect from a speaker, and instead it plays vibrations through the use of glass.
Finding acoustics that also provide an excellent space and a centerpiece of art. Most of what is aesthetically pleasing or streamlined for the home is not as nearly impressive in sound, this speaker looks to change that stereotype.
Light as a Feather
With all the fuss about tablets nowadays, it almost seems like laptops have been forgotten on the new tech aspect. Well, Lenovo’s LaVie Z is providing a rare surprise to those who have had the luxury to put it into their hands.
This laptop is so light that it feels like only a prop or just a prototype of what the laptop will look like, but it is in fact a fully functional laptop, weighing in at roughly half as much as the Macbook Air. With the lighter weight, you would think it would be lower powered, but it is set to come packed with an i5 quad core, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB SSD. Nothing to scoff at, however, the price will be $1300, so it’s definitely more of a vanity item than anything.
