A Sports Filled Weekend Ahead
NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship concludes Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, putting a wrap to the season. Jimmie Johnson will be pursuing his seventh overall title, all with the same crew chief – Chad Knaus – in the Ford EcoBoost 400 on NBC at 2:30 p.m.
Others in the Championship 4: Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, and Carl Edwards. Johnson and Busch each won four races this season, Johnson and Logano three apiece.
Get ready to drop your heiner in your recliner for a full weekend of electronic stimulation. Ah, the rest of the Weekend TV Six-pack…
For a nasty grudge match in college football, try No. 23 Florida (7-2) at No. 16 LSU (6-3). This game, originally scheduled for Gainesville, Fla., was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew and subsequently moved (thanks to LSU’s intransigence) to Baton Rouge, La. The Gators are not happy making this trip. It’s on the SEC Network Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
One of the original grudge matches is Southern Cal and UCLA. The No. 13 Trojans (7-3) play the Bruins (4-6) at the Rose Bowl at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. We’ll also recommend No. 24 Stanford (7-3) at Cal (4-6) as a grudge match (though that certainly understates the case). It’s on PAC-12 Network at 5:30 p.m.
No. 9 Oklahoma (8-2) can claim a share of the Big 12 title with a victory over No. 14 West Virginia (8-1) in Morgantown, W. Va. That draws the marquee time slot of 8 p.m. from ABC.
Your Sunday night NFL matchup features the Washington Redskins (5-3-1) at home against the slumping Green Bay Packers (4-5), who have lost their last three. Never thought of the Packers as a trap game before (not in recent years) but the Redskins play on Thanksgiving against the NFC East-leading Dallas Cowboys.
Enjoy. Watch responsibly. Be a model for your children.
