Trump calls out Ilhan Omar, again
President Trump is renewing his Twitter feud with Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, one of two Muslim women in Congress. Trump created an enormous uproar over the summer when he tweeted that four Democratic Congresswomen, who call themselves “The Squad,” should “go back to where they came from.” Congress condemned the comments in an official House vote.
Omar was born in Somalia and spent several years in a Kenyan refugee camp, but came to the U.S. when she was nine years old.
This time, Trump retweeted a video from a blogger who claims Omar was “partying” on the anniversary of 9/11.
“Ilhan Omar partied on the anniversary of 9/11 because she believes ‘Some People Just Did Something,'” the blogger, Terrence K. Williams, wrote. “President Trump was bashed for playing golf On MLK day but it’s okay for Omar to party?”
Omar said the claim was false, and that the video shared widely on Twitter was from an event with the Congressional Black Caucus. The video had nothing to do with 9/11, Omar said.
“This is from a CBC event we hosted this weekend to celebrate black women in Congress,” Omar tweeted. “The President of the United States is continuing to spread lies that put my life at risk. What is Twitter doing to combat this misinformation?”
