A Sports Filled Weekend
A six-pack? With the NCAA Tournament whittling its field to the Final Four? This weekend will be more like a happy hour. It’s two for one!
We don’t know all of the matchups yet for the Elite Eight, but we can tell you that you don’t want to miss Saturday’s meeting between Oklahoma and Oregon in Anaheim (6:09 p.m., CBS) for a berth in the Final Four. Oregon has won a school-record 31 games; Oklahoma has the incomparable Buddy Hield. A close second is Kansas and Villanova; the Jayhawks are the overall No. 1 seed. That’s Saturday night at 8:49 p.m. on CBS.
There are four games on Friday and we’ll suggest one early one and one for the night owls. Iowa State and No. 1 seed Virginia play at 7:10 p.m. on CBS and you’ll marvel at Virginia’s ability to control tempo. At 9:57 p.m. on TBS, No. 1 seed North Carolina plays resurgent Indiana.
In the women’s tournament, you have to get a look at UConn as it pursues its fourth straight title. The 33-0 Huskies play Mississippi State on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. and ESPN will show it.
If you’d prefer to experience the great outdoors, there’s the WGC Dell Match Play event in Austin, Texas. Match play pits golfers against each other hole by hole, rather than on an aggregate score. It’s fun and different. The final on Sunday airs on NBC from 3-7 p.m.
Keep a bottle of eye drops handy and a firm grip on the remote. As always, watch responsibly.
