Recap The Action-Packed Weekend Of Sports
The New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams put on a spirited show Sunday that ended with the Rams absorbing their first loss of the season.
Alvin Kamara scored three touchdowns in the first half and the Saints stayed aggressive on offense late in the game against the potent Rams in a 45-35 victory. The Rams are 8-1, the Saints 7-1 – the Saints have won seven straight.
The Chicago Bears scored a pair of defensive touchdowns in beating the hapless Buffalo Bills 41-9, the Kansas City Chiefs moved to 8-1 with a 37-21 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the Minnesota Vikings beat the Detroit Lions 25-9 and sacked Matthew Stafford 10 times, the Atlanta Falcons downed the Washington Redskins 38-14 for their third straight win and the New England Patriots used a turnover to break open a close game and defeat the Green Bay Packers 31-17.
One other statistical oddity – the Miami Dolphins beat the New York Jets 13-6 to win without scoring an offensive touchdown.
College Football:
Unanimous No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Notre Dame stayed exactly where they were in the Associated Press college football poll, and No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 Oklahoma all moved up a spot. West Virginia jumped from 12th to No. 7 after beating Texas on a two-point conversion in the final minute Saturday. Ten ranked teams lost, four to other ranked teams.
Elsewhere:
Kevin Harvick earned a shot at another NASCAR Cup championship, rocketing past polesitter Ryan Blaney in overtime Sunday to win at Texas and nab a berth in the final four. Harvick led 177 of the 337 laps.
Bryson DeChambeau won the PGA Tour’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas by one stroke.
Maryland football got all the attention (for all the wrong reasons) last week, but its field hockey team, ranked No. 2 in the nation, won the Big Ten championship by beating Iowa 2-1.
