New generations of the device are already planned.
At the beginning of the year, video game publisher and developer Valve released their long-awaited handheld gaming PC, the Steam Deck. After a slightly rocky launch, the device has gained a positive reputation among the gaming public for its convenience and usability. However, Valve isn’t planning on just resting on their laurels; there is more Steam Deck development in the pipeline.

In an interview with Weekly Famitsu reported by VGC, Valve designer Greg Coomer revealed that the company is already brainstorming ideas for a next-generation Steam Deck, with potential new features like game streaming and improvements like an optimized battery life.
“Unless something major changes, there will be a next generation of Steam Deck products in the future,” Coomer said. “The theme, size and shape will change, and it might even become a streaming machine. Development of the Steam Deck will continue.”

When asked what drives them to continue development on the Steam Deck, Coomer said “One reason is that it is an extension of our core Steam platform. The Steam Deck is another PC in another form, but Steam has many other uses besides this handheld device […] and we will continue to work to satisfy our customers as much as possible.”
