Taylor Swift Claims Top Spot For Highest Paid Celebrity
Taylor Swift is the highest-paid celebrity of 2019, according to Forbes Magazine. She beat out Kylie Jenner and Kanye West, who came in second and third place.
A diverse group of stars rounded out the top twenty, including Dr. Phil, Howard Stern, Ed Sheeran, several professional athletes, and “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling.
Taylor earned an estimated $185 million in 2019 for her album “Reputation” and the concert tour that followed it. This is her second time reaching number one on Forbes’ list: she also placed first in 2016, following the release of her album “1989.”
“Forbes compiled its 2019 list by estimating pre-tax earnings from June 2018 to June 2019, before deducting fees for managers, based on data from Nielsen, touring trade publication Pollstar, movie database IMDB and interviews with industry experts and many of the celebrities themselves,” reported The Guardian of the United Kingdom. “The magazine said the world’s 100 highest-paid celebrities pulled in $6.3 billion pretax over the past 12 months.”
Kylie Jenner, who took second place, earned an estimated $170 million this year. However, Forbes caught heat last year for naming Jenner “the world’s youngest self-made billionaire.” Critics noted that her family connections made it difficult to consider Jenner “self-made.” Jenner’s sister, Kim Kardashian West, ranked number 26 on the list.
