Solar Energy Woes
Industry experts believe Tesla CEO Elon Musk‘s SolarCity acquisition played a large part in breaking the solar industry’s five year winning streak. According to Gizmodo, overall, residential solar sales are down 13 percent in the US this year, following five straight years of gains.
The report said SolarCity’s door to door sales pushes became much less aggressive, after Tesla bought it – a drop that echoed across the market. Solar boomed during the Obama years, propped up by federal subsidies, tax breaks, and stringent environmental regulations. A lot has changed since then. The Trump administration has repealed those plans, blaming solar for the coal industry’s woes.
