Trump isn’t happy with other world leaders mocking him at NATO Summit
President Trump called the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, “two-faced” after Trudeau and other heads of state appeared to mock Trump at the NATO Summit in the UK this week.
News cameras caught Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson jokes about Trump at a reception at Buckingham Palace. The three world leaders appeared to be laughing about Trump’s lengthy press conferences in front of the media.
In response, Trump called Trudeau “two-faced” and said the Canadian leader is just miffed because Trump called him out on Canada not paying their fair share for NATO defense.
“I find him to be a very nice guy. But the truth is I called him out because he’s not paying their 2 percent and I guess he’s not happy about that,” Trump said. “He should be paying 2 percent. It’s Canada and they have money and they should be paying 2 percent…Look, I’m representing the US and he should be paying more than he’s paying and he understands that. So I can imagine he’s not that happy, but that’s the way it is.”
Later on, Trump tweeted that the summit went well, predicting NATO would be stronger than ever.
“Great progress has been made by NATO over the last three years. Countries other than the U.S. have agreed to pay 130 Billion Dollars more per year, and by 2024, that number will be 400 Billion Dollars. NATO will be richer and stronger than ever before,” Trump wrote.
