Biden will be ready for his first day in office with COVID-19 response team
President-elect Joe Biden enlists medical experts to create his health team that will be working for the administration’s coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Biden’s health team will be leading the pandemic response once Biden takes office in January.
Biden will be working with experts including Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith as the chair of the COVID-19 equity task force, Xavier Becerra the Attorney General of California (also Biden’s nominee for secretary Health and Human Services), Dr. Vivek Murthy who is Biden’s nominee for US surgeon general, Dr. Rochelle Walensky as the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Dr. Anthony Fauci as chief medical advisor to the Biden administration.
Dr. Anthony Fauci will have a welcoming relationship with the president compared to his toxic relationship with exiting President Donald Trump during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Fauci will continue his work as being one of the nation’s leading infectious disease experts for the White House COVID-19 task force while maintaining his director position at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Biden will also be bringing back former members that he worked closely with during the Obama administration during his eight years as vice president. Former Obama administration official Jeff Zients will be serving as a transitional Biden co-chair.
Jeff Zients will coordinate the COVID-19 response as well as serving as a counselor to the President and Natalie Quillian (another former Obama administration staff) will serve the COVID-19 response team as deputy coordinator. Biden will also be implementing more health recommendations for his first hundred days in office.
Biden will be asking the public to wear masks for his first 100 days in office while reassuring the public he’s not requesting people to wear masks forever. As Biden works to develop his COVID-19 response team and further health recommendations.
