Britain’s Prime Minister is looking for support with Brexit plan
Boris Johnson, Britain’s new Prime Minister, is warning Tories to Support His Brexit Plan–and some are taking it as a threat.
“To show our friends in Brussels that we’re united in our purpose, MPs should vote with the govt against Corbyn’s pointless delay,” Johnson tweeted. “I want everybody to know, there are no circumstances in which I will ask Brussels to delay. We are leaving on 31 Oct, no ifs or buts.”
Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the UK’s Labour Party and Johnson’s main opponent in the British Parliament, said he would do everything he can to stop Britain’s “disastrous” exit from the European Union. He also called Johnson “unelected” and said he does not speak for the British people.
“We have a Prime Minister who hasn’t won an election and who doesn’t have a majority,” Corbyn tweeted on Monday morning. “When he decrees that parliament will be shut down because his plan for No Deal doesn’t have the votes, we say that is an attack on democracy which will be resisted.”
A few hours later, Corbyn tweeted a picture of himself with other Labour Party members, writing, “Today Labour held our Shadow Cabinet in Salford where we discussed our plans to do everything in our power to stop a disastrous No Deal exit. We are ready for a General Election, which will be a once in a generation chance for a real change of direction for our country.”
