Three Players were ejected from Ohio State and Michigan’s rival game last Saturday. Marcus Hall and Dontre Wilson of Ohio State, and Michigan State’s Royce Jenkins Jones were all kicked out after a fight broke out on the field. But the Big Ten have released a decision saying they will not consider suspension for the players.
In the 2nd quarter, OSU’s Dontre Wilson was returning a kickoff. Wilson got to around the 15 yard line and then was tackled hard. An argument broke out between the teams, and it ended with several players involved in the fight. All of the refs, as well as the assistant and head coaches of both teams were on the field trying to break it up.
After they were ejected, Hall and Wilson were visibly extremely upset. Hall threw off his helmet, and kicked a bench, which are widely seen as unsportsmanlike actions. But it was what he did next that caused the most attention. While he and Wilson were exiting the field, Hall threw up both his middle fingers while heading out. He has been criticized for doing so, and many have said he deserves to be suspended the most.
The Big Ten’s decision not to suspend is questionable, but understandable. Why would they want to suspend players that will be competing in the Big Ten’s own championship game next week? Plus, there are other ways to punish them, and Ohio State has already said they will punish Wilson and Hall accordingly.
Ohio State ended up winning that game in the final seconds, 42-41.
