Sandra Bullock showed up on the red carpet in grand fashion for her newest film, Gravity. While she is already making headlines and receiving positive reviews from critics for her role, it was the dress that she wore on the red carpet that stunned everyone. Bullock looked fabulous walking down the red carpet in a very stylish white mini dress and stood next to co-star George Clooney. Bullock has been quick to pass on the praise to the director of the movie, Alfonso Cuaron, who has been working on the film for the past five years. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival and it is widely expected that Bullock will be nominated for another Academy Award as a result of her performance.
Gravity
Bullock’s role in the upcoming thriller is as a first time astronaut and medical engineer. Her character’s name is Dr. Ryan Stone. The suspense is heightened when the spaceship and crew are all killed during a spacewalk between her character and George Clooney’s. This leaves both of their characters stranded in space and slowly drifting out of communication range with home. The story focuses on the interactions between Clooney and Bullock as the more experienced astronaut takes over and tries to get the medical engineer to stay calm and focus on what they can do to survive by working together.
The Characters
While Clooney is also one of the stars of the film, it is really Bullock who draws in the audience with her performance. The range of emotions that she exhibits is exceptional and her role is portrayed nearly perfectly. From the grief that she shows from her past to running out of oxygen, the movie creates a sensory sensational that is unlike anything before it. This had to be accomplished while going through the physical nature of the shooting process. Much of the film was actually shot in a zero gravity environment to make the film appear as realistic as possible. The actress and actor felt that they worked together extremely well and look forward to doing another movie together. In real life they have been friends for over 20 years, however that real life chemistry does not always transfer over to the real screen. It was a relief for both of them that the shooting process worked out as well as it did.
Back on the red carpet, Bullock and Clooney were nothing but smiles as they attended the premiere. If early critics are any indication it would appear that the film is headed towards the Academy Awards in multiple categories, but it is Bullock alone that is receiving the bulk of the praise for her work on the film. The film opens on October 4 and also stars Emma Watson. Red carpet buzz puts Watson right behind Bullock for some of the best-dressed young stars in Hollywood. The two showed up wearing nearly matching dresses, perhaps a sign of the chemistry that they developed during the time shooting the film together. Expect big things in the near future from Sandra Bullock.
