The $1 Tip is Long Gone!!
Tipping is often times anxiety causing for a lot of people, how much to leave bartenders, doormen, and drivers, can be an endless puzzle. Yes, you want to tip appropriately for the service rendered but you don’t want go overkill, unless you happen to be one of those awesome people that leave $3000 tips on a $20 tab, in which case WE LOVE YOU!
So, the big question is, is the $1 tip really dead? Drum roll please, and the answer you have all been waiting for is, yes. Yes, you heard right, the $1 tip is officially dead and not coming back anytime in the near future. For example, at the coat check, you can’t just leave a dollar. The rule of thumb is $2 for the first jacket and $1 additional for every jacket.

Same goes for bartenders, and they are telling people that the $1 tip is becoming less and less common. So, what does this mean for us, is the $2 bill coming back anytime soon? Well, believe it or not, you can actually go to the bank and request $2 bills and they will give them too you. Plus, they are perfect for tipping.
But, be careful, because though you may not realize it sometimes tipping is incorporated into a bill such as in a NYC taxi cab as they know that they can be short changed easily. Tipping is not only polite but also an important social custom to follow because often times people’s livelihood deepens on it.
If you’re having trouble with the tipping conundrum there are smartphone apps for calculators that make tipping a breeze. So, next time you go out be sure you tip wisely and well!
