Kaepernick may be coming back to the NFL soon
Colin Kaepernick was once a promising young NFL quarterback, with 72 career touchdown passes, 13 rushing touchdowns, and 30 interceptions. But he hasn’t played in the league in three years–and many believe it’s not because of his lack of athletic prowess, but his politics. Kaepernick led controversial protests against racism and police brutality, in which he knelt on the field for the National Anthem. According to Kaepernick’s fans, this led to his “blacklisting” by the NFL.
But Kaepernick appears to be getting a second chance. The NFL arranged a private workout for Kaepernick and scouts from various NFL teams. But fans are skeptical it’ll lead to a new NFL contract. ESPN.com called Kaepernick’s chances of playing this season “remote” and questioned the NFL’s motives for holding the workout.
“The idea that a team would sign Kaepernick now and expect him to start games this season is incredibly far-fetched,” ESPN reported. “First of all, as we’ve mentioned, he hasn’t played in three years. Second, you just don’t see teams pick up quarterbacks during the season for the purpose of starting games for them right away…Any team looking at Kaepernick this weekend would be doing so with the thought of adding him to its overall quarterback picture for next season and beyond. It’s possible a team could sign him and get him into its building to prepare him for a 2020 role. It’s also possible no team signs him until the offseason. And, as the past three years have shown us, it’s obviously possible no one signs him at all.”
