Elton John
Elton John has been tapped to write the songs for a devilish upcoming musical – The Devil Wears Prada. Producer Kevin McCollum said Thursday that John, the composer of Broadway hits The Lion King, which he won a Tony for, and Aida, will supply the music for a stage adaptation and playwright Paul Rudnick will write the story. Rudnick is known for having written screenplays, articles and novels, and is a regular contributor to The New Yorker.
Kevin McCollum, Fox Stage Productions and Rocket Entertainment have been working on the play for a couple of years and have yet to release the details of the casting and production timeline for the musical. The Devil Wears Prada began as a best – selling novel by Lauren Weisberger, inspired by the author’s own experiences working as an assistant for Vogue magazine editor Anna Wintour. It is about the hellish experience of Andy, a young woman and aspiring writer, who takes the job as a personal assistant to the very difficult Miranda Priestly.
It was adapted into a hit film starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep in 2006. Streep even received an Oscar nomination for her role in the film as Miranda Priestly. Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel spent six months on the New York Times bestseller list and the movie grossed $326 million worldwide. Hopefully, the Broadway adaptation will be as much of a hit as the book and the movie, as Elton John says he is a “huge fan” of both.
