Cardi B Is Backing Bernie For 2020

Rapper Cardi B and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders might seem like strange bedfellows, but Cardi says Bernie is her candidate of choice in the 2020 presidential race.

“I been reading about Bernie Sanders and I’m really sad how we let him down in 2016 This man been fighting for equal rights, HUMAN rights for such a long time,” Cardi B tweeted. “Seeing this country become a better place been really his passion for a long time not a new front for a campaign.”

One Twitter user questioned Cardi’s reasoning, writing, “Cardi B complained about paying too much in taxes, then endorses bernie who will raise taxes on the rich to fund his extreme socialism.” Cardi replied, “I don’t mind paying taxes if I see on what am I paying my taxes on. It’s sad that we pay so much taxes yet we don’t have free college education neither free healthcare.”

Sanders told MSNBC’s Ali Velshi he welcomes Cardi B’s support.

“She is very sharp and understands a lot about politics and a lot about history,” Sanders told Velshi.

Sanders, who narrowly lost the 2016 Democratic primary to Hillary Clinton, has a devoted following among Millenials, despite being in his 70s. He is considered a top candidate in the 2020 primary field, often polling in the top three with former Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.
