The Steam Deck is not compatible with Destiny 2.
PC game publisher and developer Valve recently released their first true handheld PC gaming platform, the Steam Deck, to the general public. Prior to the Steam Deck’s release, numerous game developers and publishers on Valve’s PC gaming platform, Steam, confirmed whether or not their games would compatible with the Steam Deck’s particular cocktail of a Linux-based operating system, SteamOS. Of course, whether the games are compatible or not, that doesn’t usually stop players from attempting to run them anyway, though there’s one game they shouldn’t attempt to try.

Bungie, developer of multiplayer shooter game Destiny 2, warned players that the Steam Deck is not compatible with their game, and players attempting to play it with a Steam Deck will be met with swift disciplinary action.
“Destiny 2 is not supported for play on the Steam Deck or on any system utilizing Steam Play’s Proton unless Windows is installed and running,” Bungie wrote in a troubleshooting FAQ.
Destiny 2 is not supported on Steam Deck. Bungie has added an official notice on the Steam page for Steam Deck Compatibility.

“Players who attempt to launch Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck through SteamOS or Proton will be unable to enter the game and will be returned to their game library after a short time,” the FAQ says, adding that “Players who attempt to bypass Destiny 2 incompatibility will be met with a game ban.”
While Bungie has not provided a precise reason for this severe discipline, a recent addition to the game’s Steam page implies that attempting to run the game through a Linux-based OS could bypass its anti-cheat measures, which would naturally be a problem for an online multiplayer game.
