Bynes is in charge of her life again after nine years.
In 2013, former actress Amanda Bynes, who got her start on Nickelodeon shows like All That and The Amanda Show, was placed into a conservatorship controlled by her mother after they expressed concerns about her mental state and wellness. This conservatorship placed Bynes’ parents in control of her financial, medical, and personal decisions. After nine years in this arrangement, Bynes has proven that she no longer needs it.

A judge in Ventura County, California terminated the conservatorship after it was determined that Bynes was in a sound mental state, and was able to give informed consent to treatments and decisions.
“The court determines that the conservatorship is no longer required and that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship of the person no longer exist,” Superior Court Judge Robert Lund ruled. “The court intends to grant the petition for termination and order the conservatorship of the person of Amanda Bynes be terminated.”

“We’re all excited and we’re all anxiously looking forward to Amanda living a life as a private and normal citizen. Ms. Bynes’ parents have both been very supportive throughout the entire conservatorship, and have helped her work towards a positive transition into the real world, which was the goal from the beginning of the legal arrangement,” Bynes’ lawyer David A. Esquibias said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Ms. Bynes has done very well in a very short period of time that she’s been [living at the structured community for women.] Now she’s able to live on her own independently and free of the conservatorship. Besides normalcy as a person and a student, I know that she is looking forward to what her next step is going to be.”
