This past week Google made a huge announcement that is exciting Android users everywhere! That’s right, it’s the moment you have all been waiting for they finally announced that their new and upcoming ‘Android N’ release will allow Android to run natively within cars later this year.

With this new version of Android, apps can run independently of your smartphone and on your car. You can even control more of your in car experience with radio, heating and air conditioning, bluetooth calling, and even video streaming. Just like Android Auto you still have access to Google Maps, playing music on your phone, but you also have access to third party apps such as Pandora, Spotify, SoundCloud and more!

But it gets better…the Android interface also shows up in the instrument cluster so that you can view your navigation, media streaming, and other notifications. AND you have access to hands free voice commands which allows you to control your streaming apps, make phone calls, and even search Google/Maps!

So be sure to check out the video above and see ‘Android N’ in action… but remember Google isn’t focusing all its efforts on newer cars like you see in the video. Google also plans to untether Android Auto from the dashboard with an updated Android Auto app. This means even people with older cars will be able to take advantage of the Android Auto interface….enjoy!
