Turner Reveals Her Worst On-Screen Moment Yet

Sophie Turner just raised the bar for awkward first kisses, and it is a story worth every squirm. The Game of Thrones alum recently appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers to talk about her new gothic horror film The Dreadful. While promoting the movie, she dropped a candid confession: kissing her long-time co-star Kit Harington was physically nauseating.

Turner and Harington spent eight seasons playing sibling roles, Sansa Stark and Jon Snow. So when she cast him as her romantic lead in The Dreadful, the idea made perfect sense script-wise. But once they found themselves on set, reality hit: the script’s intimate scenes turned out to be more than either of them had anticipated.

“We put it out of our minds until the first kissing scene,” Turner explained. Both of them were actually retching during filming. Turner described it as “vile” and labeled it one of the worst moments in her career, worse even than filming with live cockroaches for another project.

Still, neither let the discomfort get in the way. Turner trusted the strength of The Dreadful’s script enough to push through. Directed and written by Natasha Kermani, the film is set during the 15th-century Wars of the Roses. Turner plays Anne, whose quiet life with her mother-in-law is upended when a man from her past returns, played by Harington.

Turner’s honesty about the unsettling experience highlights just how much heart actors put into challenging roles, even when they test personal limits. Her willingness to lean into that discomfort makes the finished movie feel all the more compelling.
