Trump’s Former Campaign Manager Will Plead Guilty To Two Charges
Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, has apparently agreed to plea guilty to charges and work with special counsel Robert Mueller in his investigation of foreign tampering in the 2016 Presidential election. The ongoing investigations are to deliberate whether or not the President or his top staffers colluded with Russia in an attempt to tip the election in Trump’s favor.
Manafort will plead guilty to the charges of conspiracy against the United States, and conspiracy to obstruct justice due to witness tampering. These charges both stem from Manafort’s time working as a consultant for the pro-Russian former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, and the Ukraine’s Party of Regions political party from 2006 to 2015.
The plea deal does not mean that Manafort will necessarily give any information regarding the President’s knowledge of the alleged foreign meddling, but Trump has historically praised Manaforts discretion. Things may change, however, as Manafort is embroiled in several legal nightmares.
He was convicted of eight counts of money laundering and tax and bank fraud last month. The White House has denied that the charges filed against Manafort have nothing to do with the 2016 election or Trump’s victory. Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s legal counsel, stated on Monday that his team was not concerned that Manafort would enter a plea deal.
