Kardashian West Is Advocating For Criminal Justice
Kim Kardashian has a newfound passion for law and criminal justice. Not only is the reality TV star studying to get her law license, but she’s also visited the White House to advocate for criminal justice reform. Now, she wants to incorporate her work into a new series.
“Oxygen Media has greenlit a two-hour documentary series, tentatively titled Kim Kardashian: The Justice Project, which will center on Kim and her legal team’s recent work, specifically relating to helping to facilitate the releases of people who are incarcerated on low-level drug offenses,” BET reports.
Kim is labeled as an executive producer on the doc, which, according to the press release, will ‘capture Kardashian’s efforts to secure freedom for Americans who she believes have been wronged by the justice system.’
Last year, Kim visited President Trump to advocate for the release of Alice Johnson, a grandmother serving a life sentence for a non-violent drug offense. Thanks to her efforts, Johnson was freed shortly after the visit. In the last three months, Buzzfeed reports, Kim has helped release 17 inmates from federal prison.
“Lawyers Brittany K. Barnett and MiAngel Cody confirmed Kardashian’s involvement in funding the 90 Days of Freedom Campaign in response to President Trump’s signing of the First Step Act, which allows some people imprisoned on federal drug offenses to seek sentence reductions, particularly those serving life terms,” Buzzfeed reports.
Who knew the reality TV princess would use her fame to fight injustice? In any case, hats off to Kim Kardashian for shedding light on this important issue.
