‘Being The Ricardos’ celebrates ‘I Love Lucy’
The dynamic comedy duo that created “I Love Lucy” will be commemorated in the new Amazon Studios film “Being The Ricardos” starring Nicole Kidman as Lucy and Javier Bardem as Rick Ricardo. This film will feature a unique narrative of the relationship on and off-screen between Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.

“Being The Ricardos” will begin with Ball and Arnaz beginning the story with a table read of an “I Love Lucy” episode leading up to the live filming of the iconic comedy TV show. The new film will reveal more about the stars that created the iconic comedy show while Ball and Arnaz face a crisis that could end their careers along with another obstacle that could end their marriage.
Ball and Arnaz married in 1940 and transitioned into becoming one of the most beloved TV couples in history creating “I Love Lucy” in 1951. Despite the couple appearing to have a perfect marriage on TV, they started experiencing relationship problems.
Ball filed for divorce from Arnaz in 1944 but ultimately the couple reconciled leading to them co-founding and co-owning Desilu Productions in 1950. The couple created the first successful show under Desilu Productions with the “I Love Lucy” show in 1951.
Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are in talks to play Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in Aaron Sorkin’s #BeingTheRicardos

The couple’s production company continued to create more successful shows including “Star Trek” and “Mission: Impossible” but the couple wasn’t successful in their marriage. The couple remained together over the years but Ball filed for divorce a second time in 1960 citing her marriage was a “nightmare.”
Aaron Sorkin will be writing and directing for the first time since the recent success of his latest film “Trial of the Chicago 7.” The plot framing of this movie seems similar to one of Sorkin’s previous scripts for “Steve Jobs” that covered three monumental and pivotal days of Jobs’ life.
This project was in the works for a while with the initial plan for Sorkin to write and Cate Blanchett to play Lucille Ball but eventually, Sorkin was promoted to director with Kidman committing to playing the role of Ball. The project is still in development and has yet to commit to a start date for production.
