Well, it’s official: You can legally buy weed in Colorado now, as long as you’re 21 or older.
The state began the sale of recreational marijuana Wednesday, marking the beginning of an unprecedented experiment in the governmental regulation of weed.
The nation’s first recreational pot industry kicked off a marijuana experiment that will be watched closely around the world. Already, it is attracting people from across the country.
Business owners who threw their doors open for shoppers at 8 a.m. are looking for the fledgling industry to generate as much revenue as state officials hope it will. While only a few dozen dispensaries were open on the 1st official day of legal pot sales, almost 300 more are set to get their license’s and open up shop in the coming month.
Who was the first?
The first customer to legally buy pot was Sean Azzariti, an Iraq veteran who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and uses pot as a treatment method as supposed to taking multiple prescription medications.
While Azzariti is a self proclaimed stoner he won’t be dipping into this particular stash because he plans to lock it, and the receipt from his purchase, in a safe to mark the historic day. Because according to Sean, “It’s a piece of history, dude,”.
We’re positive that pro-pot advocates in Colorado are highly pleased with this major shift in the marijuana mindset. It will be interesting to see how this major move in Colorado impacts marijuana laws in other states.
