Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Rumored as Possible Contender for U.S. Senate Seat
Recent reports have sparked speculation about Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, potentially considering a bid for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by Senator Dianne Feinstein, according to sources cited by the Daily Mail.
Meghan, alongside her husband, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, returned to her hometown of Los Angeles in 2020 after stepping down from their roles within the British royal family. Since her return to the United States, Meghan has been actively involved in advocacy and political engagement on various fronts.
The Duchess of Sussex has engaged with Congressional leaders and senators from both parties on important issues such as supporting paid leave for parents. Her efforts have also included lending support to gun safety organizations like Moms Demand Action and visiting the memorial for the Robb Elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, to stand in solidarity with the victims’ families.
Reports of Meghan’s potential interest in Senator Feinstein’s seat have generated considerable attention among California Democratic donors and political observers. Governor Gavin Newsom, who holds the authority to appoint a successor to fill Feinstein’s vacant seat, has been reportedly considering various candidates.

While Meghan’s entry into the political arena may be seen as a long shot, some insiders suggest that in the unpredictable landscape of U.S. politics, it cannot be ruled out entirely. A major donor close to Governor Newsom stated, “Meghan is definitely a long shot, but in the craziness that is U.S. politics these days, it’s not an impossibility. Crazier things have happened.”
This is not the first time Meghan’s potential involvement in politics has been discussed. In the past, there were reports of her interest in Senator Kamala Harris’s vacant seat, and she was known to have networked within liberal circles to build grassroots support.
Meghan’s interest in politics appears to be evolving, and the recent passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein has renewed discussions about her possible role in the 2024 election.
While Meghan’s political aspirations remain speculative, her engagement in advocacy and political discourse continues to garner attention and interest from various quarters.
