When Barry started, he knew he wanted to make running and fitness a priority in his life. He found it a great way to clear his mind, get some fresh air and reduce stress. However, after completing five half marathons in a year, Barry suffered from an injury called plantar fasciitis, which causes inflammation and extreme pain in the muscles of the feet.

Barry’s injury set him back to square one. As he says, “It’s heartbreaking when you can’t do something you love doing.” After receiving treatment, he’s gradually building his pace back up and is looking forward to competing in a 10k in the next couple of months.

For anyone looking to get back on track after an injury, physiotherapist Penny Porter has some helpful advice for you.
