How Smart Is Your Smartphone?
The term ‘artificial intelligence’ or ‘A.I.’ has been in the news a lot lately. The idea that we’ve manufactured computer systems that have the same abilities as human beings do, like speaking and interacting, still has a little bit of a sci-fi feel to it. But, this is the world we live in now. It’s a world full of robots, computers, and smartphones….all of which are becoming smarter than the humans creating them.
What happens when our smartphones have the ability to outsmart us? According to researchers, we will likely see that day in around five years or so. Artificial intelligence is the biggest technological trend that will continue to grow, and it’s currently taking over the cellphone market. Smartphones will soon have neural and neuromorphic processors that will mimic the behaviors of a human brain. Now that sounds pretty scary, but compelling nonetheless. Finally, smartphones will be smarter than we are!
What does that mean for the future of smartphones? Well, just like humans, they will have the capacity to learn as they are used. But, that’s not all. The average storage capacity and size will likely increase, as well as advanced sensors and language processors, among many other advancements. So in five years, it’s likely we will see much more complex smartphones, with biometric systems able to recognize people and an ability to learn and used. These advancements will catapult smartphones into the frontier of being one of the greater inventions of our century.
