A Sports Filled Weekend Ahead

Where, oh where, to begin? It is an embarrassment of riches, a visual feast. So much to see, and only two well-worn eyeballs.

Let’s see if we can’t provide you with a nice variety of tasty dishes to view. Please place your heiner in the recliner and prepare to lean back a little…

Kind of hard to argue with an SEC battle like No. 9 Tennessee (5-0) at No. 8 Texas A&M (5-0). So stop arguing. Tune in – 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday on CBS.

Two great rivalry games may also capture your attention. We’re leaning just a bit to No. 23 Florida State (3-2) at No. 10 Miami (4-0). The Seminoles need to save their season, and they’ll have to do it against a fine quarterback in Brad Kaaya. That’s at 8 p.m. Saturday on ABC. Or you can opt for the old Red River Rivalry – No. 20 Oklahoma (2-2) against unranked (and defenseless) Texas (2-2). Texas’ upset last year still stings the Sooners. Fox Sports 1 at noon.

Please check local listings to see which national NFL games you might be getting, or repair to the nearest sports bar to catch the Houston Texans (3-1) at Minnesota Vikings (4-0). The Vikings do a lot with a little and come off a 24-10 win on Monday night against the New York Giants. They’re the new NFL darlings. Sunday, CBS, 1 p.m.

NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship is down to 12 drivers. The Bank of America 500 is on NBC Sports Network at 7 p.m. from Charlotte, N.C. Do not curse your fate if you skip this one – the championship race is not until Nov. 20 and the cut to eight comes before the Oct. 30 race at Martinsville. This playoff is a little like The Hundred Years’ War, but with less pacing. (Side note – The Hundred Years’ War actually went on for 116 years, but who’s counting?)

Hate to lump all of baseball as one portion of your weekend sixer, but the intersection of space and time is filet mignon to physics majors, not me. Great Friday night doubleheader – the Los Angeles Dodgers at Washington Nationals at 5:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1 and MLB Network, followed by the the San Francisco Giants at the Chicago Cubs at 8, same TV coordinates.

That’s the menu. Choose wisely. Tip the pizza guy handsomely, dedicate a chicken wing to me, and please, please, please watch responsibly.
