The Golden State Warriors opened a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven series in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a ridiculous 110-77 victory on Sunday night.
“Our defense was the key tonight,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.
Draymond Green scored 28 points to lead the Warriors. LeBron James paced Cleveland with 19 points but had seven turnovers. The series resumes Wednesday in Cleveland.
Boxing
Muhammad Ali, three times the heavyweight champ and a force for social change, died Friday night in Scottsdale, Arizona of septic shock. He was 74. Ali was a linchpin of the upheaval of the 1960s, with his conversion to Islam and his seeking of conscientious objector status when called by the U.S. military to serve. Ali opposed the Vietnam War. Ali enjoyed adulation throughout the world not only for his boxing but for his support of humanitarian causes. In 2005, President George W. Bush awarded Ali the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Tennis
Novak Djokovic won the French Open men’s singles title on Sunday giving him a career grand slam, defeating Andy Murray in four sets, winning the last three. On Saturday, Garbine Muguruza upset Serena Williams in straight sets for her first Grand Slam win. She prevented Williams from tying Steffi Graf’s Open era record of 22 such titles.

The San Jose Sharks defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in overtime on Saturday night. The Sharks trail 2-1 in the Stanley Cup finals, with play resuming on Monday night. … William McGirt won for the first time in 165 starts on the PGA Tour, taking the Memorial in Dublin, Ohio on the second playoff hole. He bested Jon Curran. … The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ Axalta ‘We Paint Winners’ 400 at Pocono Raceway was postponed due to inclement weather and will be run on Monday afternoon. … Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez tied a career-high with 14 strikeouts in a 1-0 victory over the New York Mets. He has won eight straight starts and is 9-2.
