Catching Up With All The Sports Action From Over The Weekend
Brooks Koepka’s hot start on Sunday carried him to a 3-stroke victory in the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.
Koepka made three birdies in a four-hole span on the front nine, never bogeyed a hole and recorded a 5-under 65. This continued his string of outstanding performances (tied for fourth at the British Open, second at the U.S. Open, a victory in the PGA Championship). He’s the sixth golfer to win a major and a WGC title in the same season.
Koepka’s move up on Sunday worked in tandem with Rory McIlroy’s slide. McIlroy shot 62 on Saturday but posted a 71 on Sunday and slipped to fourth place. Webb Simpson took second.
Also In Golf:
Jin Young Ko picked up her second major title of the season, winning the Evian Championship in Evian-Les-Baines, France. She reclaimed the women’s No. 1 ranking as well.
Bernhard Langer won his fourth Senior British Open and a record-extending 11th senior major title at Lytham St. Annes, England.
Baseball:
The New York Yankees, hammered in the first three games of their series with Boston, beat the Red Sox 9-6 on Sunday night.
Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer reacted to his pending removal from a game against the Kansas City Royals by throwing the ball over the center-field fence. He later apologized.
The Toronto Blue Jays traded All-Star pitcher Marcus Stroman to the New York Mets and second baseman Eric Sogard to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Albert Pujols of the Los Angeles Angels hit the 650th home run of his illustrious career.
MLB’s trade deadline is Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
