A Sports Filled Weekend It Was

In his first start since becoming the world’s No. 1-ranked player, Dustin Johnson won his fourth World Golf Championships title with a one-shot victory over Tommy Fleetwood in Mexico City.

Johnson’s 4-shot lead had dwindled to 1 when he birdied the 15th hole and he closed with three pars to earn his fifth PGA Tour win his last 15 stars. His final round – a 3-under 68. He has now won back-to-back starts.

Ross Fisher and Jon Rahm tied for third in the Mexico Championship.

Boxing: Keith Thurman won a split decision over Danny Garcia to unify the welterweight (147 pound) title on Saturday night in Brooklyn, N.Y. Both had been undefeated.

College Basketball: No. 1 Kansas defeated Oklahoma State 90-85. No. 2 Villanova crushed Georgetown 81-55. No. 5 North Carolina edged No. 17 Duke 90-83. No. 7 Arizona beat Arizona State 73-60. No. 8 Louisville defeated No. 19 Notre Dame 71-64. The Associated Press’ new Top 25 comes out on Monday.

NASCAR: Imagine a NASCAR driver being penalized for speeding. Yes, it can happen. Kevin Harvick, who was dinged for speeding on his final pit stop at Atlanta Motor Speedway, led 293 of 325 laps but lost to Brad Keselowski, who passed Kyle Larson with six laps to go for the victory in the second NASCAR race of the year. Harvick, who had to restart at the back of the field after his “speeding ticket,” finished ninth.

Elsewhere: Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer was suspended by the NBA for one for making contact with an official. He sat out Sunday’s 97-96 loss to the Indiana Pacers…Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett had an outstanding showing at the NFL scouting combine Sunday and now seems a lock to be the No. 1 overall pick in the April draft. The Cleveland Browns hold that choice, along with the No. 12 choice in the first round…The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team won its 106th consecutive game, defeating UCF 78-56 in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The Huskies play South Florida on Monday night for the championship.
