Kansas City Chiefs finishes NFL’s 100th season as Super Bowl LIV Champions
In 2013, a young quarterback named Patrick Mahomes sent out a tweet that read: “I bet it feels amazing to be the quarterback who says ‘I’m going to Disney World’ after winning the Super Bowl.”
Now he knows for sure.
Mahomes led a third straight playoff comeback on Sunday night in Super Bowl LIV, carrying the Kansas City Chiefs to a 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Chiefs trailed 20-10 in the fourth quarter before racking up the game’s final 21 points.
The Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years. Mahomes, 24, became the youngest QB to win the game’s Most Valuable Player award. He completed 26 of 42 passes for 286 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for a touchdown.
Andy Reid, who had been the winningest coach in NFL history without a Super Bowl title, ensured his legacy with a patient and steady approach in the face of a third straight deficit of 10 points or more in these playoffs. And again his team rallied for a win.

Basketball:
Expect a reshuffling of the college hoops poll Monday. No. 8 Villanova, No. 10 Seton Hall, No. 11 Oregon, No. 13 Kentucky, No. 14 Michigan State, No. 16 Butler, No. 21 Houston and No. 23 Wichita State all lost Saturday and No. 19 Illinois fell on Sunday. … Damian Lillard scored 51 points in the Portland Trail Blazers’ 124-107 victory over the Utah Jazz. He’s averaging 48.8 PPG over his last six games. … The Brooklyn Nets will be without guard Kyrie Irving (knee) for at least a week.
Golf:
Webb Simpson won the Waste Management Phoenix Open on the first playoff hole with a birdie to defeat Tony Finau and collect his sixth PGA Tour title. Simpson is ranked 11th in the world.
