Now You Won’t Have To Leave Home For Your Next Walmart Run
Wal-Mart doesn’t have a reputation for tech-forwardness, but the retail giant is working to change that. Starting in the fall of 2019, Wal-Mart is launching a grocery delivery service in which customers get groceries delivered to their freezer or fridge–meaning fresh or frozen items won’t be left on the porch in a box.
Wal-Mart will test the service in three cities: Kansas City, Missouri; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Vero Beach, Florida. If it’s successful, the company plans to expand the service.
What if customers can’t be home for the delivery? Wal-Mart can deliver anyway. To soothe anxieties about strangers entering your home to deliver groceries, Wal-Mart says all delivery people are trained by Wal-Mart, have been employed by the company for at least a year, and will wear cameras so the customer can watch the delivery in real time.
Wal-Mart e-commerce CEO Marc Lore says delivery service employees will be trained to “enter customers’ homes with the same care and respect with which they would treat a friend’s or family’s home.”
There’s increasing consumer demand for services that gather and deliver groceries, such as Instacart–in which a grocery store employee does your shopping for you–and AmazonFresh. However, Wal-Mart’s new service goes a step further by having an employee stock your refrigerator for you, even taking special care to neatly organize your groceries.
