Trump blasts the impeachment articles

The same day Democrats released two Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump, Trump blasted the articles as “flimsy” and “pathetic.” He’s deemed the impeachment “a big fat hoax” and says he’s not worried about facing a trial in the Senate.

“Today, the House Democrats announced these two flimsy, pathetic, ridiculous articles of impeachment,” Trump said at a rally in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday night. “With today’s announcement, they are now admitting there was no collusion, there was no obstruction of justice, and there were no crimes, whatsoever!”

Trump said the Democrats were impeaching him because they are desperate to win the 2020 election. He accused his political opponents of “cheapening the process” of impeachment.

“They are impeaching me. Do you know why?” Trump said to the audience. “Because they want to win an election, and that’s the only way they can do it…to me, impeachment is a very ugly word. It’s a word I associate with some very bad times in our country. This was a big deal. They are making it so it’s like, ‘Let’s do this every six months.’ They have cheapened a process.”

In the two articles of impeachment, the Democrats accused Trump of abuse of power to help his own political prospects, as well as obstructing justice.
